Merry Christmas To One And All
This christmas to me, is a little atypical. For one, i'm not in Singapore, for another, i don't have to attend the parliament seating. What is the parliament seating?
It is adreadful not highly exciting annual event where the Seows congregate at Bedok Parliament House @ Block 500+. It starts off as Contingent Seow #1 (thats my family), arriving earlier than Contingent Seow #2, since the former has a landrover. But hey, this year, both contingent have one each. However, since Contingent Seow #1 land-rover is only a 1.4cc cheverolet, which is not as power as Contigent Seow #2 1.6cc toyota, they might just arrive before Contingent Seow #1, which effectively means, they get the comfy leather sofa seats. Late comers would have to be back benchers. No sofa seats for them, instead, they have no choice but to sit on wooden chairs, around the dining table. So come early for good seats.
At the parliament house, the members are in for a treat of a vast variety of munchies such as those cuttlefish keropok, buttercake, sometimes duck (which is really out of point), green tea, diet coke, anything but xmas-like food.
We don't call it a parliament house for nothing. There, current issues are voiced, debates carried out, focal group discussion etc etc. All these are going on, with the TV switched on. And when the members run out of things to say, they watch TV, commenting on the programme, or the silly antics of the more often than not, comedy screened. A decade back, Mr Bean was always screened during the seating for entertainment purposes. But little did the patriach know that members actually know the plot of Mr Bean at the back of their hands. Hence, Mr Bean was no longer that hilarious. However, there would be a couple of ppl there laughing and guffawing at silly comedies, as though it really is that funny. Let me warn you, their laughter isn't anything but contagious, it fact, it is frightening! Shudders.
Members start to get restless and figitive after one hour plus of seating. They make mental notes to themselves " hang in there! 30 more minutues before we're out!". The head of Contigent Seow #1 would tactfully end the parliament discussion by saying "okay, we really have to go". As Contingent Seow #1 marched out of the Parliament House, they feel a sense of liberation and freedom. "Finally its over", they thought in unison. Contingent Seow #2 would stay behind for their annual ritual - ordering pizza & KFC without the other Contingent.
This my dear friends, is what i called the Parliament Seating On Christmas.
